Des tensions se créaient entre Alec et Clary alors qu’ils n’ont pas le même point de vue sur la meilleure façon de traquer Valentin. Mais quand Jace et Isabelle sont envoyés par Maryse Lightwood rencontrer les fées pour une mission de l’Institut, Alec est chargé de la sécurité de Clary, à leur grand regret. Avec le retour en ville de sa mère à la main de fer et les tendances de Clary à n’en faire qu’à sa tête, Alec se retrouve à avoir lui-même du mal à respecter les règles de l’enclave pour tenir la promesse qu’il a faite à Jace.

Pendant ce temps, la meute des loups-garou de New York City commence sa chasse afin de récupérer Clary et de mettre la main sur la Coupe Mortelle.
